Let guests join your Wi-Fi without typing a password

Enter the network name exactly as it appears in the Wi-Fi list, choose the security type and add the password. The QR code updates as you type, and scanning it opens the phone's own 'Join network' prompt.

This is ideal for long random passwords: nobody has to read characters off a whiteboard, and you avoid support requests about capital letters and lookalike symbols.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. 1Type the SSID exactly as broadcast — it is case sensitive.
  2. 2Select WPA (covers WPA2 and WPA3), WEP or no password.
  3. 3Enter the password, and tick 'Hidden network' if the SSID is not broadcast.
  4. 4Test the preview with a phone that is not already connected, then download and print it.

Good places to put it

  • Cafés and restaurants

A small card on each table or a sticker by the counter.

  • Hotels and rentals

In the welcome folder and beside the TV or router.

  • Offices

A guest-network code at reception and in meeting rooms.

  • Co-working spaces

Desk labels so members onboard themselves.

  • Clinics and salons

Waiting-room signage to keep visitors occupied.

  • Home

Inside a kitchen cupboard for visiting family and friends.

Security notes worth knowing

Anyone who can see the printed code can join the network, so treat it like the written password: display it where guests can see it, not where passers-by outside can.

If your router supports a separate guest network, encode that one instead. Guests get internet access without reaching printers, NAS drives or other devices on your main network.

Frequently asked questions

Which phones can join Wi-Fi from a QR code?
Modern iPhone and Android cameras read the standard WIFI: payload natively, so scanning shows a join prompt without any extra app.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent to Snipp?
No. The code is drawn in your browser with JavaScript, so the SSID and password never leave your device and are not stored anywhere.
Which security type should I choose?
Pick WPA for almost every modern router — it covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3. Use WEP only for legacy hardware, and 'No password' for a genuinely open network.
Does it work with a hidden network?
Yes. Tick 'Hidden network' and the code includes the hidden flag so the phone still finds the SSID.
What if I change the password?
The password is encoded in the pattern, so you need to generate and reprint a new code after any password change.
